The Department of Infrastructure looks after the city’s construction, development, public services, and transit.1

What the Department does for you

  • Writes and enforces the building code for all construction, public and private. See Building and real estate.2
  • Reviews designs from non-citizens. If you’re not a citizen, submit your design to the Department before you build.3
  • Keeps roads and rail lines running. Report any damage to a road to a city official. Only the Department or the Transit Authority may repair a road, unless the Authority gives you permission.4
