Reading the site
You can read every public page without signing in. Reading the site sets no cookies, and the site runs no analytics, tracking, or ads.
Signing in
The portal signs you in with Discord. Discord gives the city your Discord ID, username, and profile picture. The city never asks Discord for your email address.
Signing in sets cookies that keep you signed in. They’re the only cookies the site sets. The city records the IP address and browser of each sign-in to keep your login secure.
When you claim a Citizen ID, the city keeps a scrambled form of your IP address for a day, to stop anyone from guessing IDs.
Your city record
The portal keeps:
- Your record: the name you go by, your Citizen ID, your real name if you gave it, your citizenship status, and your address
- Your Minecraft account, once you link it: its username and ID
- Your filings: the applications you make, your answers, and the messages between you and the office
- Your licenses and permits
- Your City account: your balance, and every deposit, withdrawal, and payment
Who sees it
- The name you go by, your citizenship status, and your licenses and permits: anyone signed in. (Charter 1 §8) Anyone can check a license or permit by its number on Check a document.
- Your Citizen ID and real name: you, and the Department of Defense, which keeps the register.
- Your address: you, and the offices that need it, such as the Department of Defense and New Philadelphia Express.
- Your filings: you, and the office handling them. A confidential filing, such as a complaint to the Independent Inspection Office, is seen only by that office.
- Your City account: you, and the City Treasury.
Every action an official takes on a record is logged with who took it and when. No one can edit the log, and it’s read by those who oversee officials.
Keeping and deleting
Your record, filings, licenses, and account history are city records. The city keeps them so the register and the ledger stay complete.
You can ask the City Communications Office to delete your login: your Discord sign-in and your Minecraft link. Your city record stays, with no login attached.
Where it’s kept
The site is hosted by Vercel, and its database by Neon. Like any web host, Vercel keeps short-lived logs of requests to the site, such as the page requested, the time, and your IP address. Searches are part of the page address, so the words you search for appear in those logs too.
Age
You need to be 13 or older to sign in, the same as Discord.
When you contact the city
If you email the city, the City Communications Office receives your email address and your message, and uses them only to answer you. Discord’s own privacy policy covers messages in the city Discord.
Links to other sites
Some links lead off this site, such as the City Charter, the city map, and the city Discord. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
