Farming and agriculture

Rules for farms and mob spawners, and when they need approval.

The Department of Agriculture keeps the city’s growth in balance with the wilderness around it. Most farms need nothing from the city. Larger ones need approval first.

Crop farms

  • Farms of 5 chunks or more need the Department’s approval before you build. Smaller farms don’t.1
  • Keep your farm on your own property, off roads, and out of reservations and grazing land.2
  • Farms should become self-sustaining over time.3
  • No farm in the city may grow, sell, import, or export cabbage.3

If your application is declined, you can’t file another for the same land for two weeks.4

Livestock

Recognized livestock: cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, mooshrooms, slimes, bees, fish, squids and glow squids, guardians, phantoms, and snow and iron golems.5

  • Enclosures must be fully closed, at least 1 meter each way from the center, and out of sight of public roads.6
  • Keep no more than 25 of one animal without the Department’s approval.7
  • Treat animals humanely.8

Mob spawners

Every mob spawner needs the Department of Agriculture’s approval before you build it.9

Mining

  • Report any mine deeper than 30 meters to the Department.10
  • In shared mines: leave ore that others uncovered, clear or mark lava, keep it lit, and keep exits clear.11

Protected land

Wildlife in city reservations is protected. Don’t disturb it or build in a reservation without the Department’s approval.12
