Start or run a business in the city.

The Department of Commerce keeps the city’s economy fair and runs its currency.

The New Philadelphian Dollar

  • The city’s currency comes as cash vouchers in $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 notes.1
  • Exchange vouchers at the Bancc.
  • Trade in vouchers. Deals made any other way aren’t protected by city law.2

Running a shop

  • Keep your shop safe and well lit, with a clear entrance and exit.3
  • Mark every price clearly.3
  • Agreements made in front of a witness are binding, even spoken ones.4

Registering a business

  • Any citizen can register a business with the Department of Commerce. There’s no fee.
  • A registered business gets its own account, which you use from Money.
  • The city buys only from registered businesses and contractors.5
  • A business that breaks the acceptable practices can be closed for a time or for good, and a City court can overrule the closure.6

Land and duplicated items

  • Every property sale needs a witness or written proof.7
  • Selling duplicated items takes a duplication license. Label them as duplicates, and price them at no more than 75% of normal value.8

See Licenses for both.
